    The author's verbiage is right out of a '40's film noir! Also having a female as the hard boiled champion didn't hurt either. Thoroughly enjoyed, and will be reading the sequels.

    Independent, very competent, female shamus in the early 1930's. Not a romance--which is a good thing. The period details are interesting and believable.

    Great read, well plotted, with interesting Characters, especially the heroine Maggie. Well crafted period references, too. I couldn't put it down.

    Strong lead character Maggie Sullivan is a private detective. She manages to get herself some interesting and complicated cases. The surrounding characters are well-developed and repeat through the series, giving the series a nice familiarity. The plots are good and I enjoy the intelligence Maggie uses to solve the case. Plenty of humor and descriptive storytelling makes for a book that's never boring. Highly recommend this set of tales!
