  • Waste of time & money

    Alex Cooper's dialogue is stilted, childish and highly unlikely. She's needy, whiny yet bossy. Mike Chapman is incredibly unlikable. The writing as a whole is a jumbled collection of "historical" stuff - maybe. No cohesive story can be found. A disappointment at best.

    It was one of the best Alexandra Cooper books of the series. Over the years I've read them all. Each one was better than the last. I can't wait to see if she goes for the top job.

    Seriously,not nearly interesting enough. Stick with murder and sex crimes. The whole story line was ill conceived.

    A few caveats of my own. I'm a member of two conservation societies. I'm also grateful for what Ms. Fairstein took on as her subject matter in this book. Lastly, I've read all of her books and will continue to do so. All that said, I thought I'd purchased a mystery/thriller book and there is some of that, indeed. But (and don't read more here - spoiler alert - unless you want to know too much more about the plot) the book is more of a sermon and seminar on big game hunting, illegal poaching and global conspiracies to kill off innocent animals for profit than it is a mystery thriller. The efforts to rein in, investigate and prosecute these conspirators is critical and laudable. But turning what is billed as a fictional story into a non-fiction book, often pedantic at that, seems misleading when a book is a top-dollar price.
